The Village of Evendale
Regular Council Meeting
June 10, 2004
The Village of Evendale held a Public Discussion Session prior to the Regularly Scheduled Council Meeting. There was no discussion.
The Village of Evendale held the Public Hearing for regulating the cellular communication towers and antennas in the Village Zoning Code. The Mayor asked if anyone wanted to address council on this issue. There was no discussion. Mayor Apking asked for a motion to close the public hearing. A motion to close the public hearing was made by Mrs. Hartman, seconded by Mr. Vonderhaar and unanimously approved on roll call.
The Village of Evendale held its Regular Council Meeting. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Don Apking. Upon roll call, the following council members were present: Mr. Bill Puthoff, Jr., Mr. Stiney Vonderhaar, Mr. Jeff Albrinck, Mr. Chris Schaefer, Mrs. Smiley-Robertson and Mrs. Catherine Hartman. Also present were: Village Chief Fiscal and Accounting Officer, George Snyder; Village Engineer, James Jeffers; Recreation Director, Dave Nichols; Economic Director, Linda Fitzgerald; Assistant to the Mayor, Jack Cameron; Village Solicitor, Tim Burke and Village Clerk, Michelle Ficke.
Mayor Apking presented the consent calendar. Mrs. Hartman stated that the May 4, 2004 meeting minutes state that she was not present. She taught a class that night and said the minutes should say that she was absent and excused. Mayor Apking asked for a motion to accept the consent calendar as amended. A motion to accept the consent calendar as amended was made by Mr. Vonderhaar, seconded by Mr. Schaefer and unanimously approved on roll call.
Jim Weunker, President of the Mill Creek Conservancy District, spoke about the request they made to Evendale to fund the work of the Mill Creek Valley Conservancy District on the flood reduction project in the amount of $100,000 through March, 2005. He stressed the federal support for this project at this time. Senators Portman and Chabot have given us a tremendous amount of support in Washington. Bob Jansen from the Mill Creek Conservancy District also spoke about the three proposed methods of a basin-wide solution along the Mill Creek. He said we have the strongest Congressional support in the history of the project. The importance of the local partnerships was stressed. Mayor Apking thanked Mr. Weunker and Mr. Jansen for the hard work that they do.
Mayor Apking presented Resolution #04-16, “Resolution Consenting to the Execution of an Agreement Between the Board of County Commissioners of Hamilton County, Ohio and All Occasions Group, Inc. Rental Center Building I, LLC and Rental Center Building II. LLC Providing for the Adoption of a Project Which Will Expand a Business in the Village of Evendale and Create Employment Opportunities Within an Enterprise Zone a of Hamilton County.” Linda Fitzgerald and Andrew Barnhorst from the Hamilton County Development Company which oversees the Enterprise Zone Program spoke. A motion to read Resolution #04-16 by title only was made by Mr. Vonderhaar, seconded by Mr. Albrinck and unanimously approved on roll call. A motion to suspend the second and third readings of Resolution #04-16 was made by Mr. Puthoff, seconded by Mrs. Hartman and
unanimously approved on roll call. A motion to adopt Resolution #04-16 as an emergency was made by Mr. Puthoff, seconded by Mr. Vonderhaar and unanimously approved on roll call. Mayor Apking declared Resolution #04-16 adopted as an emergency measure.
Mayor Apking gave the Mayor’s Report. October 10, 2004 will be the date for the Town Meeting. The Sun Flower Festival will be October 9, 2004. They moved the date back because the Sun Flowers would not have been ready for the September date he discussed at the last month’s council meeting.
Mrs. Hartman gave the Police Department Report. The Quality Assurance Surveys that the police department has been sending out to persons who had interaction with the Police Department and they received 18% returns with 100% being positive comments. On June 1 the new cruisers were delivered and they are being outfitted now. The D.A.R.E. graduation for fifth and sixth graders at Evendale Elementary and at St. Rita’s occurred in May. It is a ten week course that teaches kids how to address peer pressure with respect to alcohol and drugs. Lt. Oakes and Officer Abroms (?) attended a four hour course on the carrying concealed weapons law. All of our officers qualified at the Cincinnati Police Department rifle range. Officers Babcock, Carr (?) and Rudholf (?) graduated from a forty hour course on mental health. Sgts. Court, ASbrock and
Niehauser (?) finished a management course at University of Cincinnati. Phi Lambda Pi had some paint ball games and officers Halloway and Shope participated.
Mr. Vonderhaar gave the Fire Department Report. He announced that the firehouse chili luncheon is June 16 from 11:00 to 1:00 pm.
Mr. Ablrinck gave the Recreation Department Report.
Mayor Apking asked for a motion to adjourn. Mr. Albrinck made a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Mrs. Hartman and unanimously approved on roll call. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm.
